Buying a home? Watch out for these 7 red flags in the neighborhood

A bad neighborhood isn’t always obvious, though; sometimes you need to do a little digging to know if a community is worth buying in. Luckily, we’ve identified seven red flags that should give you pause before you sign on the dotted line. Red flag No.1: Too many houses are on the market There’s nothing wrong with two or three listed houses on the same street. But if you see an army of “For Sale” signs, consider looking elsewhere. “This points to illiquidity in the market and pricing pressure, which is a risk for buyers,” says Alison Bernstein, the founder of Suburban Jungle, which helps families find their ideal suburb. Of course, the hue of this particular red flag depends on the …

Bottle Feeding Your Baby Could Influence Whether They Use Their Right Or Left Hand Later In Life

Whether you bottle feed or breastfeed your baby could play a role in what hand they prefer to use later in life, according to a new study from the University of Washington. In a review of more than 60,000 mothers and their babies, the researchers determined that bottle feeding infants was associated with a higher prevalence of them being left-handed even when accounting for known risk factors that may influence which hand a child favors. To determine how feeding an infant may influence their dominant hand, researchers gathered data on the duration of breastfeeding as reported by the mother through seven national surveys in five countries. They found that breastfeeding for more than six months was associated with 3 percent less left-handed babies than …

There May Be A Genetic Basis For Monogamy, Says Study

What do prairie voles, water pipits, and humans have in common? Individuals of each species forge monogamous pairings.  While they might have very little else in common, at least two of these animals share a bunch of genes that encourage this form of romantic bonding. That is according to a study recently published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Researchers from the University of Texas (UT) at Austin came to this conclusion after analyzing the male brains of 10 different species, five that are monogamous and five that are not. Each animal defined as monogamous was compared to a close cousin who enjoys a more freewheeling lifestyle, and so loved-up prairie voles were compared to meadow voles, water pipits to dunnocks, etc.  “Our …

Does the pride flag need black and brown stripes?

Report End of Twitter post by @simondanielc But Manchester Pride has also been praised for becoming the first UK Pride to adopt the additional colours on the flag. “The criticism comes from cis-white gay men who have never gone through half of the things I have gone through in my life,” Phil Samba, a sexual health worker from London, tells Newsbeat. “They’ve never experienced stereotypes to the extent I have. They’ve never been objectified sexually in the way I have.” Phil says the decision by Manchester Pride to change the flag sends out a message that BAME LGBT people deserve the same recognition and visibility as white people at the event. Businesses and lobby groups have warned of disruptions at ports as well as dwindling medical supplies, and Britain’s defense secretary has put 3,500 troops on standby. The Department …

Poker player stays in isolation inside pitch-black bathroom after $100G bet: report

Alati and Young agreed on the following terms: Alati would be delivered food from a local restaurant at irregular intervals to prevent him from keeping track of time. There would be no television, radio or phone; he would be able to have a yoga mat and massage ball. Alati’s father would also monitor him via video feed and could pull his son out at any time. You Will Not Believe What People Have Done To US National Parks Since The Government Shutdown Began

The US national parks are just wild at the moment. If you want to see what a Hobbesian Leviathan-style dystopia would look like, one where rule of law is supplanted by total anarchy, Yosemite National Park 2019 offers a little taster. Warning: it involves trash, vandalism, and lots of human poop. In response to the government shutdown, hundreds of thousands of federal employees – including national park staff – have been forced to take a temporary leave of absence, and they will not be able to return to work until Congress and the White House are able to come to some kind of agreement on the subject of Trump’s controversial border wall.  According to the Washington Post, Park Service estimates as many as 16,000 of …
